I was travelling on a train enroute to Delhi
when I met this lady who had a great impression on my thoughts. She was a
single mother with a 6 yr old daughter. Being seated in the same coach in
adjoining seats, it wasn’t odd of us to strike conversation. When I found about
her marital status, married but separated, I was obviously curious to know the
whole story. Though she was reluctant to reveal everything in the beginning,
eventually on my insistence she gave in. Her so called husband had ditched her
soon after their daughter was born. She never asked him to give explanations,
nor did she complain to him about anything. It was a love marriage and she
believed it made no sense to force him to stay in this relationship if he
thought he had outgrown his love for her. As she opened herself up, I was
astonished to see her so calm and serene even after the hardships she had to go
though. I couldn’t resist asking if she still loved him. She kept quiet while
staring outside the window. After a while her daughter sneaked up and hugged
her from behind. There was a wide smile as she looked at her. She then said to
me, “You know whenever I get angry at him leaving, I look back and smile at
what he left behind.”
