It was a
girl’s night out. After college, different careers had driven all of us to
different cities. And rarely did it happen that all of us were together in the
same city at the same time. This was one of those rare occasions. Except Neha,
everybody had managed to come. Girls are never past their teens. We still wore
pink PJs, giggled over stupid jokes, smirked at LS ideas, pried over each other’s
secret and dreamt about the prince on white horse. Whatever! We didn’t care!
The first hour went by updating each other on the course our life had taken
after college. The next one on our list of BFs we had managed as yet. Suman suddenly
got up and offered to prepare coffee for everyone. While she was away, her
mobile started ringing. Since it was her Mom calling, I received and asked her
to call in a while. Suddenly I realized her mobile was the same model I had
been planning on buying.
So I started browsing it. By itself I reached her
inbox and before I could click the back button, I found myself staring at it. It was overflowing and most of them were from a single sender - Mitesh. I knew one Mitesh who was
going around with Suman in college but had broken off soon after we finished
our college. I sneaked to the kitchen and asked her about it after putting
forward my apologies for intruding without permission. When she confirmed he’s
the same guy and the messages were from those days, I needed to know no more.
Everything was clear as a crisp spring morning. Advising her that it was
necessary to let go of the past to bring the future in her grasp, I moved back
to the living room.
