My best friend,
Raagini had just returned from U.S. She had been against my agreeing for an
arranged marriage but couldn’t influence me much from there. I had got married
in a jiffy and could not even give her proper time to plan her trip. So she had
many questions lined up for me now that she was here – whether I loved my
husband, new house, and my in-laws. I invited her home for dinner to acquaint
her of my new home, new family, Harish, my husband and answer her questions
herself.
“Wow you have a
beautiful home,” she said admiring the décor.
“Thanks dear.”
“Whose job is it?
Yours or Harish’s?”
“Harish never has
time for anything except his business.”
“That’s bad.
Where is he by the way?”
“He was supposed
to return by now, but it seems he got struck somewhere.” I said trying to call
him up.
“Hmm. So how was
your first birthday after marriage? I am sure he threw a grand party.”
“Well! Not
really. He had a very important meeting lined up that day.”
“Don’t you think
that’s a little too much? How can you live with someone who never has time for
you?” she said, genuinely concerned by now.
“Raagini relax.
Don’t take things wrong. I agree he hardly gets to spend time with me, but
whatever he does, its of the supreme quality. For e.g. my birthday night, he
did arrange for an awesome candle light dinner, most romantic ever albeit a
little late. And ultimately there’s just this one thing – I don’t how I live
with him, but I SIMPLY CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT HIM now.”
The doorbell rang
and Harish entered.
I think she got
her answer for she hugged Harish and thanked him for taking so good care of her
best friend. There were tears rolling down her eyes.
